Sensei Jim Folger
Sensei Jim Folger began his martial arts journey in 1979 and has dedicated more than four decades to the study, practice, and teaching of self-defense. He holds the rank of 3rd Dan Black Belt in Minna Jiu Jitsu and studied directly under Grandmaster Kovacs, the founder of Minna Jiu Jitsu.
Sensei Jim is personally certified by Grandmaster Kovacs to teach Minna Jiu Jitsu to men, women, children, and law enforcement professionals, reflecting both his technical proficiency and his commitment to responsible, effective instruction.
In addition to Jiu Jitsu, Sensei Jim has studied Tai Chi, which influences his teaching approach through an emphasis on balance, control, structure, and efficient movement. His instruction blends traditional martial arts principles with practical, real-world self-defense applications.
Sensei Jim is deeply committed to helping students develop confidence, discipline, awareness, and respect, both on and off the mat. His teaching philosophy centers on integrity, personal growth, and the belief that true martial arts training strengthens the mind, body, and character.
Outside the dojo, Sensei Jim enjoys pickleball, Tai Chi practice, and winemaking, activities that complement his dedication to martial arts.
